Old Marsh Golf Club was founded in the early 1980s after Old Marsh Partners bought a 450 acre ranch nestled in the middle of Palm Beach County and turned it into an exclusive residential country club and golf community. As golf was intended to be the main focus of the club, the founders followed the traditional customs of golf dating back centuries, and consequently Old Marsh appointed a club golf captain: Laurie Auchterlonie. Auchterlonie was the perfect choice for captian at Old Marsh, as he was the Honorary Professional to the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andre, Scotland, and his family roots were tightly intertwined in golf history. The Auchterlonie family's antique club collection is still on display at Old Marsh, regularly piquing the interest of golf aficionados lucky enough to view the display. Interestingly, Auchterlonie was the first and only captain ever appointed to the club.

The golf course at Old Marsh Golf Club stands apart from other local courses in its commitment to protecting the environment it calls home. The undulating greens and grassy fairways wind their way through south Florida marshes and wetlands, and in order not to spoil these natural habitats, the course was fitted with a special irrigation system. The system is designed protect the surrounding saltwater wetlands by trapping the fresh water used to keep the course in top condition, and keeping it out of the marshes. The club itself is acknowledged as a "Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary" by Audubon International for their efforts.

The picturesque setting of Old Marsh's golf course and the history of the club go hand-in-hand with the design of the course. Golf course architect Pete Dye incorporated an appreciation of the natural surroundings and a nod to the game's Scottish pedigree when he created a course that won top honors as one of America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses. In addition, Old Marsh Golf Club employs a fine staff of golf professionals to assist players and to maximize their enjoyment of the course. The current General Manager of Old Marsh Golf Club is a Certified Club Manager with the Club Managers Association of America, and there are numerous experienced caddies in the club's celebrated caddie program.

Like the golf course, the residential portion of Old Marsh Golf Club pays a great deal of respect to the natural habitats in the surrounding area. These beautiful estate homes are set against the exquisite backdrop of a 450 acre nature preserve, and are quite exclusive as there are only 180 homes in the entire community.
